Water with Lemon for Reset

How to Reset your Life and get Back on Track

,

March 4, 2020

It’s time for a re-set! I am a creature of habit, and when things are going well the habits are all good, but it doesn’t take much to get me off my routine. This fall I was so healthy! I was coming off a summer of swimming, running and hiking, so it made sense to keep it going this fall. I was eating well, exercising regularly and taking my vitamins regularly.  Then came Thanksgiving, then Christmas, and then the launch of the blog. The train came off the tracks and I am still in need of a reset. So let’s look at how to slow down and reset your life.

I am hardly a health expert AT ALL, but I know when my body and mind feel good and when they don’t. As I talk to friends my age (mid 40’s), I find we are more concerned with how our body feels and less about a certain number or pant size. I am going to share tips to reset to get back to a healthy mind and body. I am also hoping that you will share with me (all of us) what helps you feel your best and how you reset when you aren’t.

Here are a few things you can do to reset your life

Drink more water

This sounds so obvious, but I definitely feel a difference when I don’t.  Throw some lemons in there for a boost!

Break a Sweat Everyday

If I get in the habit, this is easy but can be one of the first things to go when I get off track. I play a decent amount of tennis, so that gets me sweating at least twice a week, but it’s making sure to get out there for the rest of the week. I suffer from depression so exercise is crucial for not only my body but my head as well.

Eat more WHOLE foods

By this, I don’t mean to shop at Whole Foods, but just eat real food that isn’t processed. It’s ahhmazing what a difference just doing this can mean for your body.

Cut out added sugar

This year my sugar intake has gotten out of control. I spend so much time in the car and sometimes it is so easy to just pick up some candy and eat it while I am in the car. Even though I am not catholic, I figured Lent was a good time to give it up.  So far I don’t actually miss it.

Take my Vitamins

Again another no-brainer, but when I get out of my routine – I just don’t do it.  I always tell my husband that if I relied on the pill we would have a lot more than two children!

Get More Sleep

I am trying to put the devices away at night, and not drink wine during the week. Unfortunately, I can’t do anything about my kids and my dog interrupting my sleep. (A lab can really take up a lot of room)

Gratitude

If you can take a minute each day to practice gratitude it can go a long way to reset your outlook. For more on gratitude check out this post.

A few of my favorite things to reset

So these are tricks I use to get back to my healthy place. While I am not a fitness or nutrition expert here are some of my favorite healthy things and one I want to try.

LEK FIT

My friend Ever introduced me to LEK Fit a few years ago and I have to say that nothing has changed my body more than her classes. I pay monthly to stream it and do it in my living room, or by the lake when we are in Vermont.  You can either do just a DEFINE class or if you want some cardio you can do the fun BOOST which involves a mini-trampoline. When I am consistent it really changes my body. If you follow Busy Phillips on Instagram you have probably seen her in class.

Daily Harvest

My husband and kids LOVE fruit. They eat it non stop. I, however, am just not good at eating fruit, so Daily Harvest is great for me. We are a hot mess in the morning so I need something quick and easy, otherwise, I will reach for something not healthy. Daily Harvest delivers frozen healthy whole food that is easy to bring to life.  Use this link to get $25 off your first order.

Cookbooks

Recently I have gotten two new cookbooks that are very whole food focused, and focus more on being healthy than a sort of diet.

Life Reset: Clean Eating

The Blue Zones Kitchen

National Geographic did a study of what people eat in Blue Zones. That is where people are the healthiest and live the longest. This cookbook brings together recipes from all of those places.

Eat Clean Play Dirty

This cookbook could also double as a coffee table book, but it is full of yummy recipes aimed at being whole and healthy.

Hum Vitamins

I just ordered my first HUM vitamins. I keep seeing good things about them. After a short quiz, they recommend what you need. I will let you know how it goes once I get started. Use code 20E5EF for $10 off.

So this is my plan to get back on track and start to feel healthy again. Also to be able to wear my wedding rings without feeling like I might need to get them cut off!

Do you ever need a reset … and what are your tricks for getting back on track?
