Women Who Inspire: Ramey Caulkins

,

May 7, 2020

Now that we are all staying home more than usual, it has become even more important for your home to be a place that makes you happy. Today’s Woman who Inspires, is someone who can make a space look bright and whimsical all without sacrificing sophistication and style.  Ramey Caulkins of Griffin Design Source is not afraid to decorate with bold colors and knows how to add a lot of personality to any space.

Ramey and I met years ago in college at Denison University and our paths have been crossing ever since.  We were roommates in Denver just out of college, then she married someone I grew up with, and now she lives right across the street from my parents. So I am lucky enough to pop over to her house, and design studio whenever I visit my parents in Denver.  I love sitting in her studio chatting while she pulls the most fabulous fabrics for her clients.

I have always admired Ramey’s determination and drive, and how hard she works. She has always been focused and confident in the direction that she is going.  I love that she isn’t afraid to have fun with a space and likes to make sure that each room has its own unique style, but the talent to still create a cohesive flow.  Ramey’s designs can frequently be found in design magazines, and I love coming across them when I am flipping through pages in search of inspiration.

Ramey proves that sophisticated interiors can still have a sense of flair and whimsy.

HERE IS MY INTERVIEW WITH HER

What is the best piece of career advice you have ever received?

Don’t ever take “No” for an answer.  There is always another route. I started my career in sales. It was great training for learning to navigate and negotiate with people and businesses.  When I hit a roadblock I know there will be a silver lining and perhaps a good lesson to be learned along the way.

What other women do you admire, and anything you want to share about them?

I began my career working for a tile and stone company called Ann Sacks Tile and Stone.  I was lucky enough to work for Ann herself for over 7 years.  She taught me that you are never too precious to roll up your sleeves and dig in and the importance of being appreciative and valuing everyone who supports you along the way. I always say I am only as good as the people who can execute my vision.

What app can’t you live without?

Oprah and Deepak 21 day meditation experience.  Every few months there is a free 21-day meditation.  I love the messaging and the meditations.

What is your favorite podcast and or book?

Scott Adams Says – Scott is the creator of the Dilbert cartoon. He is smart, and very pragmatic.

What piece of advice would you share with other women?

Be authentic. You will be adored for who you are not who you think you should be.

What are you most grateful for?

My intuition and My determination.

Is there anything else you want to share with my readers?

“Stay in your lane” Don’t worry about what others may be doing. Focus on your own path and you won’t get lost.
